Cornerstone Counselling Services Terms and Conditions
1. Services Provided
The psychotherapist provides professional counselling services, which includes individual, young adults, family, or group sessions, delivered in-person or online as agreed. Counselling is a supportive process and does not constitute medical treatment, diagnosis, or legal advice.
2. Scope and Limitations
Counselling aims to support personal growth, emotional wellbeing, and coping strategies. Outcomes cannot be guaranteed. The psychotherapist does not prescribe medication or provide emergency services.
3. Client Responsibilities
Clients agree to:
- Provide accurate and complete information relevant to counselling.
- Participate respectfully and honestly in sessions.
- Take responsibility for decisions and actions taken outside sessions.
4. Confidentiality
All information shared during sessions is confidential and will not be disclosed without the Client’s consent, except where disclosure is required or permitted by law, including but not limited to:
- Risk of harm to the Client or others.
- Suspected abuse or neglect of a child, elderly person, or vulnerable adult.
- Court orders or legal requirements.
For online sessions, reasonable measures will be taken to protect privacy; however, absolute confidentiality over the internet cannot be guaranteed.
5. Consent and Capacity
By engaging in counselling, the client confirms they have the legal capacity to consent. For minors, consent from a parent or legal guardian is required.
6. Appointments and Cancellations
- Sessions must be booked in advance.
- Cancellations or rescheduling require at least 48 hour’s notice.
- Late cancellations or no-shows may be charged the full session fee.
7. Fees and Payment
- Fees are disclosed prior to commencing services.
- Payment is due on each session.
- Outstanding balances may result in suspension of services.
8. Online / Telephone-Counselling
For online sessions, the Client is responsible for:
- Ensuring a private, secure environment.
- Having adequate internet access and compatible technology.
- The psychotherapist is not responsible for technical disruptions beyond their control.
9. Emergency Situations
Counselling is not a crisis or emergency service. In emergencies, clients should contact local emergency services or a crisis helpline immediately.
10. Professional Boundaries
A professional therapeutic relationship will be maintained. Dual relationships (e.g., social, financial, or personal) are avoided to protect the integrity of counselling.
11. Termination of Services
Either party may terminate counselling at any time. The psychotherapist may terminate services if counselling is no longer beneficial, fees remain unpaid, or boundaries are violated, with appropriate referrals where possible.
12. Complaints
Clients are encouraged to discuss concerns directly with the psychotherapist. If unresolved, complaints may be directed to the relevant professional or regulatory body.
13. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, the psychotherapist is not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from counselling services.
14. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of the United Kingdom
15. Acceptance of Terms
By booking or attending a session, the client acknowledges they have read, understood, and agree to these Terms and Conditions.
